The Phillies placed star closer Jhoan Duran on the 15-day injured list Saturday with a left oblique strain.
The move is retroactive to Wednesday, so Duran, who hasn’t appeared in a game since April 11, will be eligible to come off the IL on April 30.
Duran, 28, is 1-1 with five saves in seven games this season. He has allowed two runs (one earned) with eight strikeouts and no walks through 6 2/3 innings. The right-hander was acquired last July before the Trade Deadline from the Twins and has recorded a 1.98 ERA across 27 1/3 innings with the Phils. He’s also nailed down 21 of his 24 save opportunities since coming to Philadelphia.
The team could turn to right-hander Brad Keller in the ninth inning while Duran is on the mend. Keller, who signed a two-year deal with the Phillies as a free agent in December, took over as the Cubs’ closer late last season. The 30-year-old owns a 4.70 ERA through 7 2/3 innings this season, but his expected ERA is 2.51.
Among other moves Saturday, the Phillies also added right-hander Seth Johnson to their bullpen. He has appeared in one game this season, giving up five runs (three earned) in 1 2/3 innings to the Cubs on April 13. Johnson has a 9.72 ERA in 16 2/3 career innings -- all with the Phillies -- since debuting in 2024.
