Bloodied Choi exits after collision at plate
First baseman in concussion protocol, receives stitches on left ear
September 26th, 2018
ST. PETERSBURG -- Rays first baseman Ji-Man Choi left Tuesday night's 9-2 loss to the Yankees after a third-inning collision at the plate.
According to the club, Choi received stitches for a left ear laceration and also had concussion-like symptoms. He was cleared of having a concussion but will continue to go through the concussion protocol.
Choi tried to score from first base on Brandon Lowe's bases-loaded double as the Rays looked to eat into an early seven-run deficit, but his attempt came up short. After getting tagged out by Yankees catcher Gary Sanchez, Choi got to his feet and had blood on the left side of his face.
Jake Bauers took over at first base to start the fourth inning with the Yankees leading, 7-2.
