PHOENIX -- The D-backs placed infielder Deven Marrero on the 10-day disabled list with a strained left oblique Saturday and recalled right-hander Jimmie Sherfy from Triple-A Reno.
"Deven Marrero had felt like he tweaked something [Friday] during batting practice," D-backs manager Torey Lovullo said Saturday. "So we had that looked at today and he certainly has an area of discomfort that shows some inflammation in his left oblique."
This is Sherfy's third stint with the D-backs this year. He appeared in three games in May during his first callup, and his second was brief, lasting just two days last week. He did not appear in a game.
Sherfy appeared in 11 games for the D-backs last September, did not allow a run and was a member of the team's postseason roster. In his three big league appearances this year, he did not allow a run.
A leading candidate to win a spot in the bullpen when Spring Training opened, Sherfy missed a lot of time due to shoulder fatigue and began the year on the disabled list.
"Here's a guy that was on our playoff roster last year," Lovullo said. "He's working his way back to form. I know it was a different Spring Training for him where he was battling some health issues. He's starting to throw the ball good, so [we're] anxious to see what he can do."
Yay for Yoshi
Reliever Yoshihisa Hirano set a franchise record Friday night when he extended his scoreless-game streak to 25. He has a 1.23 ERA in 40 games this year, and Lovullo hopes others will realize how well he's pitched.

"Hopefully the rest of the league is taking notice and he gets some All-Star consideration, A, and B, maybe some Rookie of the Year consideration," Lovullo said.
Hirano is 34 years old, but qualifies as a rookie because this is his first season in the Majors after pitching 11 years in Japan.
Souza, Pollock fine after rehab game
Outfielders Steven Souza Jr. and A.J. Pollock both came through their rehab game with Triple-A Reno on Friday. Pollock played center field while Souza served as designated hitter.
Reliever Randall Delgado threw one inning Friday night for Reno and will bump that up to two innings Monday.
