MINNEAPOLIS – Joe Ryan is not headed to an arbitration hearing after all.
Ryan and the Twins reached agreement on a one-year contract with a mutual option for 2027, avoiding arbitration, the team confirmed on Monday. Ryan will receive $6.1 million in 2026 with a $13 million mutual option, a source told MLB.com's Mark Feinsand. The buyout is worth $100,000, meaning that Ryan is guaranteed $6.2 million. The club has not confirmed the terms of the deal.
Ryan’s 2026 salary will be the exact midpoint between the figures the two parties exchanged earlier this month. The club offered $5.85 million while Ryan asked for $6.35 million.
Minnesota has a club policy that it will not continue to negotiate one-year deals after the exchange of arbitration figures. By agreeing to the mutual option, however, it means that this deal hews to that policy.
Ryan, 29, is coming off a career year in which he went 13-10 with a 3.42 ERA, 194 strikeouts and 39 walks in a career-high 171 innings. He remains under team control through 2027, regardless of whether the option is exercised, and would be eligible for free agency after the ’27 season.
