PHILADELPHIA -- John Kruk will be in the Phillies' TV broadcast booth in 2017.
Multiple sources told MLB.com on Thursday that Kruk has agreed to a deal with Comcast SportsNet. Kruk has not signed his contract, so the deal is not official, but CSN is expected to make an official announcement within the next week.
MLB.com first reported early in November that Kruk and CSN were discussing a deal. Those negotiations continued throughout the month, and Kruk met with CSN officials on Thursday.
Kruk spent the past 12 years as an analyst with ESPN, but they mutually parted ways in October. At the time, Kruk said he wanted to continue his broadcasting career.
Kruk, who was on the Phillies' TV team in 2003, will join play-by-play announcer Tom McCarthy, analysts Ben Davis and Mike Schmidt and field reporter Gregg Murphy. Davis and Matt Stairs, who left the TV booth to become the Phillies' new hitting coach, essentially split games over the past couple seasons.
Kruk's schedule could be limited to 60-65 games, which includes both home and road games. Davis' workload could then increase to 100-plus games, with Schmidt continuing to work weekend games at Citizens Bank Park.
Kruk spent six seasons with the Phillies from 1989-94, hitting .309 with 62 home runs and 390 RBIs across 744 games. He was named to the National League All-Star team each year from 1991-93.
