SAN DIEGO -- Jonathan Lucroy is hitting 1.000 as an All-Star. The sample size is not particularly large -- three at-bats -- but you cannot argue with success at this level.
The Milwaukee Brewers catcher singled in his only plate appearance Tuesday night in the 87th All-Star Game presented by MasterCard, a 4-2 National League loss. Lucroy went 2-for-2 in the 2014 All-Star Game, with RBI doubles against Chris Sale and Jon Lester.
Lucroy entered the game at catcher in the seventh inning. In the eighth, with one out, no one on and the NL trailing, 4-2, Lucroy faced a very tough reliever, towering, hard-throwing lefty Andrew Miller of the Yankees.

"He's a tough lefty," Lucroy said. "I knew he was going to pump heaters at me, then he started mixing some sliders in there and I really didn't expect that.
"He hung a slider and I pulled it foul. Then he threw another one and I stayed on it a little longer and hit a line drive to left. Pretty tough guy, but he made some mistakes and I was able to capitalize."
Lucroy was a little modest about the ball he pulled foul, which was way down the left-field line. And another foul ball that he struck destroyed the laptop computer of a reporter in the Petco Park press box.
"Did I really?" Lucroy said with a smile. "I'm glad I hit something hard. That's two hard hits. I'm counting that as two hits."
It was not a victorious All-Star experience for the National Leaguers, but it was still a positive for Lucroy.
"Good time, got to see some good buddies of mine, old friends of mine, got to hang out," Lucroy said. "Good people around here."
And Lucroy left Petco Park a lifetime 3-for-3 as an All-Star.
"Hopefully I'll get more," he said with a smile.
