MIAMI -- The Marlins rotation took a hit on Wednesday with the team placing rookie Jordan Yamamoto on the 10-day injured list due to a right forearm strain. Miami's No. 24 prospect according to MLB Pipeline, Robert Dugger, who was expected to be a September callup, has been recalled from Triple-A New Orleans.

Dugger will start in place of Yamamoto on Thursday in the series finale with the Reds at Marlins Park.

In his last start, a loss on Saturday to the Phillies, Yamamoto gave up six runs in 3 2/3 innings,

“He had a little soreness after the start the other day,” Marlins manager Don Mattingly said. “They did some testing, and they feel good about the fact he has no structural damage or anything like that. He’s just got some inflammation in there.”

The Marlins are not ruling out Yamamoto returning before the season ends.

Yamamoto made 13 starts for the Marlins, and after starting off winning his first four decisions, the 23-year-old hit a rough patch. In his last seven starts, he is 0-5 with an 8.13 ERA.

“We’ll work that out and hopefully get him back pitching before the year is over,” Mattingly said.

Yamamoto played catch on Tuesday and felt some discomfort, leading to the decision to place him on the IL.

Acquired from the Brewers as part of the Christian Yelich trade, Yamamoto opened the season at Double-A Jacksonville, where he was 3-5 with a 3.58 ERA in 12 starts and 65 1/3 innings.

Since being promoted to the big leagues, Yamamoto is 4-5 with a 4.87 ERA in 68 1/3 innings.

Counting his innings in the Minor Leagues, Yamamoto is at 133 2/3. A year ago, he combined for 68 2/3 innings, reaching as high as Double-A.

Dugger made his big league debut on Aug. 5, getting the start against the Mets. He gave up six runs over five innings in the loss.

Dugger split time this year at Double-A Jacksonville and Triple-A New Orleans, combining for an 8-10 record with a 5.15 ERA in 23 starts and 124 innings. The right-hander went 6-6 with a 3.31 ERA at Double-A, and is 2-4 with a 7.59 ERA in 10 starts with the Baby Cakes.

Arizona Fall League roster

Arizona Fall League rosters were announced on Wednesday, and seven Marlins prospects will be headed to Arizona to play for the Salt River Rafters, managed by Kevin Johnson, Miami’s Triple-A New Orleans manager.

Representing the Marlins will be outfielders Victor Victor Mesa and Jerar Encarnacion, infielder Jose Devers, and right-handers Nick Neidert, Vincenzo Aiello, C.J. Carter and lefty Alex Vesia.

Neidert missed much of the season due to a right meniscus tear, which required surgery. The No. 12 prospect in the system has spent much of the season at Triple-A New Orleans, and he’s logged 51 2/3 innings total, with 38 2/3 at Triple-A.

According to MLB Pipeline, Mesa is ranked 14, and Encarnacion is rated 18th.

Mesa started off a Class A Advanced Jupiter, where he hit .252, before he was promoted to Jacksonville. In his first 25 games at Double-A, he is batting .194.
