NEW YORK – ’s season is over.

The Mets announced that the switch-hitting infielder has been placed on the 10-day injured list with left ankle bursitis. According to interim manager Andy Green, Polanco will have surgery soon.

Polanco has had injury problems most of the season. Starting in late April, he was on the injured list with left Achilles bursitis and a right wrist contusion. Then he had left ankle soreness during a rehab stint. Polanco didn’t return to big league action until July 7.

Polano ended up having the least productive season of his career, hitting .148 with two home runs and six RBIs in 37 games. Green felt the injuries affected Polanco mechanically at the plate.

During this past offseason, Polanco signed a two-year, $40 million deal to be the everyday first baseman, but he played only two games at the position and spent most of his time as a designated hitter.

“He has battled all year with this left ankle bursitis that he has had,” Green said. “It’s something he didn’t deal with prior to this season. It’s gotten to the point where he just can’t get freedom from the pain.

“He has gone out there and grinded. He wanted to post for this team and it’s at a point where surgery is the best option. That’s the direction we are headed with this. He has been an unbelievable teammate in that clubhouse and I know he has felt the burden of producing for the team, city and fans. That has been heavy on him at times.”

Once Polanco has the surgery, he is expected to be ready for Spring Training in 2027.
