Hard-working Abreu earns AL weekly honors
Hard-working Abreu earns AL weekly honors

CHICAGO -- Jose Abreu earned American League Player of the Week honors for the stretch of May 22-28, hitting .452 with three doubles, two home runs, five RBIs, seven runs scored and a 1.194 OPS over seven games. It marks Abreu's fourth career weekly honor. But the seeds of Abreu's 2017 excellence actually took root long before the current campaign began. "Last year when the season ended, I started working on my body and my preparation, just to be ready for the season," said Abreu, through interpreter Billy Russo. "It was hard work that I put into my body and my preparation, and now I get to just let it go. • Past winners "You always try to do your routine and prepare yourself the best that you can. But now it's like my soul. Everything is more loose."
