HOUSTON -- Astros second baseman Jose Altuve is listed as day to day after leaving the first inning of Friday’s 3-0 win over the Rangers with left hamstring discomfort. More information will be known Saturday, but Astros manager AJ Hinch said that the injury isn’t serious.

Altuve, a six-time All-Star, legged out an infield hit on a dribbler to third base and didn’t appear to have any immediate apparent issues. Hinch made eye contact with Altuve during Alex Bregman’s ensuing at-bat and could sense that he wasn’t comfortable, so he went onto the field with head athletic trainer Jeremiah Randall to check on his star second baseman.

“He said he felt something in his left hamstring,” Hinch sad. “He’s being evaluated -- he’s been evaluated -- it doesn’t seem serious. We don’t know the extent of the injury until we get to tomorrow. He was frustrated, but made the right decision to alert us to some soreness.”

Altuve, who’s won three batting titles, is hitting .243 this season, including 15-for-84, in his past 24 games. He underwent surgery Oct. 19 to repair a patella (kneecap) avulsion fracture in his right knee that he suffered during the 2018 season, an injury that hampered him in the second half of last year and the playoffs.
