Free-agent slugger says he is not thinking about retiring

March 9th, 2018

Six-time All-Star is weighing several Major League offers and is not considering retirement despite coming off a down season.
Bautista told Yahoo Sports' Jeff Passan that the slow free-agent market has not caused him to second-guess his future.
Bautista, 37, is one of several dozen free agents who has not found a new team with less than three weeks before Opening Day. The slugger said he is choosing between several offers, with major factors being the chance to play with a contender and how the new team's location will impact his three young daughters.
Two years removed from a stretch of six consecutive All-Star seasons, Bautista hit .203/.308/.366 with 23 home runs in 2017. He played 122 of his 143 games in right field and 11 as designated hitter.
"I'm comfortable believing that a team that wants to win will see how I can positively impact their ballclub and give me a phone call," Bautista told Yahoo Sports.
Although Bautista emerged as a star with Toronto, a reunion with the Blue Jays is highly unlikely after the club traded for outfielder and signed veteran .
Among those who have had a difficult time finding employment this offseason have been Mike Moustakas, and , who combined for 106 home runs last season and recently settled for one-year deals totaling $16.5 million. Three-time All-Star is close to finalizing a one-year pact with the Rockies, and seven-time All-Star has not found a new home.
