Guardians superstar José Ramírez is a seven-time All-Star, a six-time Silver Slugger Award winner and a perennial MVP candidate -- and he's done it all with one team. That appears to be the way it's going to stay, as the decorated third baseman is said to be close to an extension that will keep him with Cleveland for the long haul.

Ramírez, 33, is nearing a new extension that would keep him with the Guardians through his age-39 season, a source told MLB.com's Mark Feinsand on Saturday. Ramírez, who has three years and $69 million left on the seven-year extension he signed in '22, would have what amounts to a seven-year, $175 contract that runs through 2032. The team has not confirmed the reported deal, which would include $70 million in deferred money and was originally reported by Héctor Gómez of Z101 Digital.

Ramírez, who recently ranked No. 5 in MLB Network's list of the Top 100 players in the sport, finished third in American League Most Valuable Player balloting in 2025 after hitting .283 with 30 homers, 85 RBIs and 44 stolen bases in 158 games.

Ramírez originally signed with Cleveland as an international free agent in 2009 and has emerged as one of the greatest players in team history. His 285 home runs ranks second behind Jim Thome (337) in team history, and his 287 stolen bases is second behind Kenny Lofton (452).
