CINCINNATI – Five games into a stretch in the 2026 schedule where all of the remaining games are against teams contending for the postseason, the Reds have a chance to win back-to-back series.
A 4-3 Cincinnati win over the Padres on Tuesday came after Jose Trevino hit a bases-loaded RBI single for the go-ahead run. The teams split the first two games of the series with the rubber game scheduled for Wednesday. The Reds are coming off of taking two of three games from the playoff-positioned Cubs in their previous series.
Opening the bottom of the eighth inning in a 2-2 game, Elly De La Cruz drew a walk from Padres lefty reliever Adrian Morejon. Sal Stewart then lined a single to right-center field to put runners on the corners. With one out, Matt McLain was intentionally walked to load the bases for Trevino.
In a 3-2 count against Morejon, Trevino lined a single to center field that scored De La Cruz. Newly recalled Juan Brito swiftly followed with a sacrifice fly to left field that brought home Stewart for a two-run lead.
Closer Emilio Pagán, a former Padre, allowed Fernando Tatis Jr. to hit his second homer of the night in the ninth inning, but converted the save to earn his 20th in 23 chances.
