Donaldson needs a boost in ASG voting

Blue Jays third baseman holds steady at third in latest ballot update

TORONTO -- Josh Donaldson remains within striking distance of winning the fan vote at third base in the American League for the 2016 All-Star Game presented by MasterCard, but he still finds himself two spots back.
Donaldson maintained third place when the third round of 2016 Esurance MLB All-Star Game Ballot updates was released Tuesday afternoon. The reigning AL MVP Award winner has received 754,777 votes, and he trails the O's Manny Machado (1,234,388) and the Royals' Mike Moustakas (824,727).

Jose Bautista dropped from fifth to sixth in voting for AL outfielders. Bautista has received 956,160 votes, but he trails the Angels' Mike Trout (1,812,731), the Red Sox's Jackie Bradley Jr. (1,322,929) and the Royals' Lorenzo Cain (1,146,885), among others.
The Blue Jays have four other players ranked in the top five at their respective positions: First baseman Justin Smoak is fifth (323,917), shortstop Troy Tulowitzki is third (569,676), designated hitter Edwin Encarnacion is fifth (465,497) and catcher Russell Martin is fourth (424,273).
Outfielders Kevin Pillar and Michael Saunders are the other two Toronto players who currently have a ranked position. Pillar is 12th (404,089) and Saunders is 14th (340,672) following his strong start to the 2016 season.
Fans can cast their votes for starters at MLB.com and all 30 club sites -- on their computers, tablets and smartphones -- exclusively online using the 2016 Esurance MLB All-Star Game Ballot until Thursday, June 30, at 11:59 p.m. ET. Vote up to five times in any 24-hour period for a maximum of 35 times.
