Juan Lagares runs through a wall -- literally

September 16th, 2019

Managers sometimes talk about players who will run through walls for you. Look no further than Mets center fielder , who did just that on Sunday night at Citi Field.

With one out in the top of the ninth inning, Dodgers outfielder Enrique Hernández lifted a fly ball deep to left field and Lagares chased it down and attempted to make a leaping grab at the wall. He came up short and crashed into the wall, where he knocked a door loose and briefly disappeared before bouncing off the door and ending up on the warning track.

After left fielder Brandon Nimmo played the carom to limit Hernandez to a double, Lagares waved to someone behind the fence, who closed and latched the door while the former Gold Glover returned to his position. Hernandez came around to score on Jedd Gyorko's single for the deciding run in the Dodgers' 3-2 victory.
