MLB hitters love to bat in big spots, so much so that sometimes they don't even notice when the other team wants nothing to do with them. Ask Julio Rodríguez about that.
In Friday night's Mariners-Angels game, Rodríguez came to bat in the top of the 10th with a runner on third, two outs and the Mariners trying to add to a slim 1-0 lead -- only Rodríguez didn't notice that the Angels had intentionally walked him.
That made for an awkward encounter when Josh Naylor, the next hitter in Seattle's lineup, walked to the plate at the same time. So, for a brief moment, there was the visually humorous and unusual image of two Mariners batters at the plate simultaneously, one in each batter's box.
Rodríguez briefly seemed perplexed as to why his teammate was joining him at the plate before realizing what happened and making the trip to first base.
After a wild pitch sent Rodríguez to second, Naylor delivered a two-run single, which gave the Mariners a 3-0 lead on the way to their 3-1 win.
