ATLANTA -- When the Braves learned Julio Teheran had battled a fever on Monday night, they opted to push his scheduled start against the Dodgers from Tuesday to Wednesday.
Approximately four hours before the start of Tuesday's series opener against Los Angeles (Atlanta won, 8-1), the Braves announced that Williams Perez would start in place of Teheran, who has been battling a cold for more than a week. Perez exited after 3 1/3 innings with the Braves leading, 4-0.
Teheran was still heavily congested when he arrived at Turner Field on Tuesday evening, but he was no longer carrying a fever. The right-hander played catch on the field, received some medicine from the club's medical staff and then returned home fully confident that he will be ready to make Wednesday's start.
"I'm feeling better now," Teheran said. "I guess it's just the weather change going from Washington [D.C.] to Miami."
The Braves had initially scheduled Teheran to start on Wednesday before they were forced to use Tuesday's original scheduled starter, Matt Wisler, to pitch the 10th inning of Sunday's win in Miami. Wisler threw a side session on Tuesday and will now match up against Clayton Kershaw during Thursday afternoon's series finale against the Dodgers.
Because Perez threw only 73 pitches against the Marlins on Friday, the Braves were less hesitant about sending him to the mound Tuesday on just three days' rest.
