MIAMI -- Marlins first baseman Justin Bour dislocated his left pinkie sliding into second base in the eighth inning of a 7-4 victory over the D-backs on Tuesday at Marlins Park.
The finger was reset, and Bour's status will be updated on Wednesday. The good news is that an X-ray came back negative, meaning there is no fracture.
"I dislocated my finger, my pinkie, sliding into second," Bour said. "I popped it back in. I guess we're going to see where I am tomorrow."
Bour pinch-hit in the eighth inning and drew a walk.
The injury came on what turned into an unnecessary play. Martin Prado lifted a fly ball to center, and after making the catch, Chris Owings threw home to nab Derek Dietrich, who was out. The out at the plate completed the inning-ending double play, but catcher Welington Castillo threw to second, prompting Bour to scramble back and dive head-first into the base.
On that slide, he jammed his pinkie.
Bour is batting .276 with three homers and 12 RBIs.
If he is out for an extended period or has to go on the disabled list, Chris Johnson is an option to play first against left-handed starters. Against right-handers, the Marlins could go with second baseman Dietrich at first and use Miguel Rojas at second, or go with Rojas at first as well.
"They said no fracture," Bour said. "We'll see where we're at tomorrow."
