Twins add pitching depth in trade for Lawrence from Pirates

MINNEAPOLIS – The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have acquired right-handed pitcher from the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for cash considerations.

Lawrence, 31, appeared in 23 games for the Pirates this season, going 0-2 with a 5.32 ERA (22.0 IP, 13 ER), 12 walks, 25 strikeouts, two holds and a .244 opponent batting average, and was designated for release or assignment by Pittsburgh on May 29. The Canal Zone, Panama native was originally selected by Colorado in the 12th round of the 2015 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of Daytona State College and has gone 13-14 with a 5.05 ERA (233.2 IP, 131 ER), 130 walks and 236 strikeouts in 222 career major league games (all in relief) for the Rockies (2021-24) and Pirates (2025-26). In 17 games for the Pirates last season, the 6-foot-3, 211-pound right-hander went 1-0 with a 0.51 ERA (17.2 IP, 1 ER), eight walks, 23 strikeouts, a 0.96 WHIP and a .153 opponent batting average.

To make room for Lawrence on the 26-man roster, the Twins will make a corresponding roster move prior to tomorrow night’s game vs. the Chicago White Sox at Target Field.
