No pitch count could keep Justin Marks from history on Saturday night.
The Triple-A Durham left-hander was forced to throw 130 pitches but notched his first career no-hitter, firing nine dominant innings in a 2-0 win over Syracuse. It was the Bulls' first no-hitter since April 26, 2014.

Marks struck out seven, walked a pair and hit a batter in the outing, while finding the zone with 70 pitches. He also generated 10 ground-ball outs.
The 28-year-old southpaw retired the first 10 hitters of the game before he hit the Chiefs' Brian Goodwin with a pitch with one out in the fourth inning. He issued a walk later in the frame and another in the seventh, although no baserunner advanced past second base in the game.
Having already thrown 97 pitches through seven innings, Marks needed to be both efficient and effective over his final two frames in order to accomplish the feat. Right on cue, the Kentucky native fanned two of the three hitters he faced in the eighth inning and then induced a pair of groundouts in the ninth before sealing his no-hitter with a swinging strikeout.
The A's drafted Marks in the third round of the 2009 Draft out of Louisville, only to trade him to the Royals the following November. He made a slow but steady climb through Kansas City's system that culminated with a big-league call-up in 2014, though he was designated for assignment following the season.
After spending parts of two years in the D-backs' system, Marks was signed by the Rays ahead of the 2016. He made one start for Class A Advanced Charlotte before moving up to Durham, where he's pitched to a 3.84 ERA with 80 strikeouts in 84 1/3 innings.
