Turner misses another start with tight hamstring

June 1st, 2019

LOS ANGELES — Dodgers third baseman was out of the lineup for a second game Friday night with mild right hamstring tightness, but he worked out on the field during batting practice.

Turner would only say he wasn’t on the injured list and wouldn’t provide further details on the severity of the injury, which was noticeable as he scored in the ninth inning of Wednesday’s 9-8 comeback win over the Mets.

Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman told SportsNet LA on Turner: "We think we got in front of it and expect him back soon."

Under the watch of a trainer, Turner did stretching, high stepping and light jogging. He didn’t look like a player headed for the injured list, but he wasn’t sprinting, either.

Max Muncy started at third base for the opener of the series against Philadelphia.

Worth noting

• Manager Dave Roberts missed Friday night’s game to attend a family commitment — the high school graduation of his son, Cole.

Bench coach Bob Geren stepped in as interim manager.

Cole Roberts, a shortstop, is committed to attend and play for Loyola-Marymount in the fall. The Lions beat Muncy’s Baylor, 3-1, in Friday’s opener of the Los Angeles regional that leads to the College World Series.
