Turner (left leg) exits early; X-rays negative

CINCINNATI -- was relieved when X-rays on his left shin came back negative on Friday night.

“It swelled up like a baseball was coming out of my shin,” Turner said.

The Dodgers third baseman left Friday night’s 6-0 win over the Reds at Great American Ball Park after fouling a ball off his shin in the third inning.

Turner finished the at-bat by grounding out to second. Then, in the bottom half of the inning, he made an outstanding play to deny ’s bid for a bunt single.

“I was moving around OK,” Turner said. “You never know when you foul a ball off the middle of your shin like that. I’ll do as much as I can tonight and see how it feels tomorrow.”

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Turner will get a day off on Saturday. is expected to start at first base with at third.

“We’ll give him tomorrow [off], treat him up and see where he is on Sunday,” Roberts said.

Turner is batting .285 with six home runs and 21 RBI in 43 games. He hit three homers on May 7. On Friday, Turner felt like he dodged a bullet, albeit painfully.

“The one thing that’s consistent is it never hits the shin guard,” Turner said. “You wear all this stuff, and it hits right above it.”
