Tigers claim INF/RHP Cowart from Mariners

DETROIT -- The Tigers on Thursday announced that they have claimed infielder/right-handed pitcher off waivers from the Seattle Mariners.
Cowart, 26, spent the 2018 season in the Los Angeles Angels organization, splitting the year between Triple-A Salt Lake and the Angels. In 64 games with Salt Lake, Cowart hit .287/.333/.457 with 36 runs scored, 20 doubles, three triples, six home runs and 45 RBI, while he batted .134/.210/.241 with seven runs scored, seven doubles, one triple, one home run and 10 RBI in 47 games with Los Angeles (AL).
In 846 career games at the Minor League level, Cowart has hit .267/.334/.410 with 462 runs scored, 187 doubles, 31 triples, 71 home runs and 474 RBI. He has played 162 games in the Majors, batting .177/.241/.293 with 41 runs scored, 18 doubles, two triples, six home runs and 33 RBI. Cowart was named a Midwest League Midseason All-Star in 2012 with Single A Cedar Rapids, while he was selected a Pacific Coast League Midseason All-Star in 2016 with Triple A Salt Lake.
The Tigers' 40-man roster is now at 40.
