NEW YORK -- Beloved Mets personality is renewing his contract with SportsNet New York, guaranteeing he will be back in the booth for the next three seasons.

Hernandez, 72, has agreed to terms on a three-year deal that will reduce the number of games he calls but keep him in the booth through at least 2028, according to a person familiar with the negotiations. Once Hernandez’s deal is signed, he will be under contract to call 95 games per season from 2026-28, a slight reduction from the 110 games per season he was under contract to call in his previous deal.

The contract was awaiting finalization as of Friday morning.

Hernandez’s agreement extends the record-setting partnership between him, Gary Cohen and Ron Darling, who have called games together since SNY’s inception in 2006. They are the longest-running broadcast team in franchise history. SNY has historically staggered the contracts of those three personalities so that they expire at different times.

Hernandez, whose irreverent style has made him a fan favorite throughout his broadcast career, often colors broadcasts with anecdotes of his home life. He was a popular player before his time in the booth, spending seven seasons with the Mets and winning a World Series in Flushing in 1986.
