Veterans Morales, Estrada clear waivers

BALTIMORE -- and have cleared waivers and are eligible to be traded, according to multiple reports Wednesday.

Fancred's Jon Heyman was the first to report that both Morales and Estrada cleared waivers. The news hardly comes as a surprise because the Blue Jays are actively shopping almost all of their veteran players as the club enters a rebuilding phase.

Morales set a Blue Jays record last week by homering in seven consecutive games. That was one away from tying the Major League record, but he is still not considered a serious candidate to be shipped elsewhere because he is set to earn $12 million next season.

Estrada is a free agent at the end of the year, but it doesn't seem very realistic that he will be traded either. Toronto confirmed on Wednesday afternoon that Estrada will start Saturday in Miami, but after his last start, the veteran right-hander admitted he has been plagued with lingering back issues over the last couple of weeks.

Players must be acquired by Friday night at 11:59 p.m. ET in order to be eligible for the postseason. Toronto also has been shopping other veterans, such as outfielder and right-hander .
