MESA, Ariz. -- Trayce Thompson hit a two-run triple in the seventh and Clayton Kershaw struck out five over three innings at Sloan Park to lead the Dodgers to a 7-3 victory Tuesday over the Cubs, who did get solo home runs from Kris Bryant and David Ross.
Kershaw scattered five hits in his second spring start, including an RBI single by Bryant.
"Physically I felt good, the fastball location wasn't great there, especially out of the stretch," Kershaw said. "I threw decent breaking balls, curve could have been better. Slider was good. Just gave up too many hits. All singles, which was good, but five in three innings is too many."
With one out in the Cubs' third, Javier Baez, Kyle Schwarber and Bryant each singled, with Baez scoring on the last hit.
Chicago starter Kyle Hendricks, making his second spring appearance, gave up two hits over three innings, striking out two. Travis Wood followed Hendricks, and the Dodgers then tied the game at 1 in the fourth on Enrique Hernandez's RBI triple.
The Dodgers had two on and two outs in the fifth, thanks to a throwing error by Baez, and took a 2-1 lead on Chase Utley's RBI single.
Bryant homered with two outs in the fifth, and Ross connected with one out in the sixth.
"It's a different feel," Hendricks said of facing Kershaw. "Even when you're facing a guy like that, even though it's Spring Training, you know he's over there. I was trying to do the same goals I had in my first outing, which was slow everything down, make some pitches, and I felt pretty good about it."
Hendricks said he felt he'd made progress from his previous outing.
"The more outings, the more starts you get under your belt, the better you'll feel," he said.
Up next for Cubs: Last season's National League Cy Young Award winner Jake Arrieta will make his first Cactus League start on Wednesday when the Cubs play host to the Indians, and he'll be facing 2014 AL Cy Young winner, Corey Kluber. Arrieta, who will be the Cubs' Opening Day starter, was 22-6 last season. The game will begin at 2:05 p.m. CT and be broadcast exclusively on cubs.com.
Up next for Dodgers: Scott Kazmir makes his second spring start on Wednesday when the Dodgers travel to Tempe, Ariz., to play the Angels. The Dodgers are hopeful of getting Alex Guerrero back from mild knee soreness. Mike Bolsinger, a fifth-starter candidate, also is likely to pitch.
