It doesn't get much better than Clayton Kershaw squaring off against Madison Bumgarner in a September showdown between postseason contenders.
Starting tonight at Chavez Ravine, the Dodgers and Giants add another chapter to their rivalry, and they're sending two of the best pitchers in the world to the mound.
That duel highlights today's 11-game slate of Major League action, and it's not the only big matchup. The Orioles and Red Sox open a key American League East series in Baltimore; the Blue Jays and Mariners' playoff pushes run into each other; and the Mets, looking to stay atop the National League Wild Card race, have their ace on the hill.

Here's what to watch for throughout the day (all times ET):
Main event: SFG@LAD, 10:10 p.m.
Dodgers-Giants. Kershaw vs. Bumgarner. The spotlight is on the heavyweights at Dodger Stadium in their second-to-last series of the year, and the final one in Los Angeles.

The Dodgers lead the NL West by five games, and the Giants enter with a one-game lead for the second NL Wild Card. So the stakes will be high, as they seemingly always are between these teams in the stretch run of the season.
"We can't take [our lead] for granted," Kershaw said after his last start. "We've still got a lot of games against the Giants left."
He'll be making his third start since returning from a herniated disk in his lower back that kept him out for more than two months. The Dodgers' ace looked like his old self his last time out, working around two rain delays to toss five innings of one-hit ball against the Yankees.
Bumgarner, meanwhile, is one of the front-runners for the NL Cy Young Award, ranking among the top five pitchers in the league in ERA (2.66), strikeouts (231) and innings (206 1/3). He's facing Kershaw for the third time this season, with Kershaw besting Bumgarner on April 15 and neither getting a decision April 9.
Stat that matters: Kershaw has 155 strikeouts this season, and only nine walks. He is the first pitcher in MLB history to reach the 150-strikeout mark without walking 10 batters.

Race for the East: BOS@BAL, 7:05 p.m.
The Red Sox and Orioles are atop the AL East, with the Sox ahead by three games and the O's leading a tight AL Wild Card race. The results of this series could swing the postseason race one way or the other.
The Orioles open the series with rookie Dylan Bundy on the mound. The 23-year-old, in his first season back from 2013 Tommy John surgery, moved into the rotation from the bullpen after the All-Star break and is 7-4 with a 4.38 ERA in 12 starts.
"Dylan's going to be going through things that he's never gone through in his career, but mentally, he's handled everything up to this point," O's catcher Matt Wieters said.
The Red Sox will counter with MLB wins leader Rick Porcello. Porcello is 20-4 with a 3.12 ERA, putting him in the mix for the AL Cy Young. He held Baltimore to one run in eight innings in his last outing.
Stat that matters: Porcello has pitched at least seven innings in 10 straight starts, the longest active streak in the Majors and the second-longest this season behind Kershaw, who did so in 11 starts in April and May.

Blue Jays, Mariners try to keep pace: TOR@SEA, 10:10 p.m.
If the Mariners want to get back into the thick of the Wild Card hunt, now is the time to do it. They trail the Blue Jays by two games in the AL Wild Card standings entering this three-game series at Safeco Field.
The Blue Jays fell into the second Wild Card slot on Sunday, a game behind the Orioles. The door remains wide open for the Jays, with the Red Sox and Orioles about to play each other -- but they'll have to get through another playoff hopeful.
Stat that matters: The Blue Jays -- who are 5-11 in September and haven't won a series -- are averaging 3.4 runs per game this month, after averaging 4.9 runs per game through the end of August.

Mets' push continues against Braves: ATL@NYM, 7:10 p.m.
The Mets have the top NL Wild Card spot after a weekend sweep of the Twins. New York carries a one-game lead over the Giants and a two-game edge over the Cardinals for the final playoff spot.
The Mets have the most favorable schedule: all their remaining games are against teams with sub-.500 records. Next up are the last-place Braves, who travel to Citi Field looking to play spoilers against their NL East rivals.
Noah Syndergaard, the ace of an injury-ravaged Mets rotation missing all of its other young power arms, starts the series opener against Atlanta. In his last start, the 24-year-old reached the 200-strikeout mark for the season, becoming the youngest Mets pitcher to do so since Dwight Gooden in 1986.
Stat that matters: The Braves, Phillies and Marlins, the Mets' opponents for their final 13 regular-season games, are a combined 199-249 -- a winning percentage of .444.
