LOS ANGELES -- Even before slugged a tying ninth-inning home run off (Kenleyfornia), the Padres nearly tied Saturday night's game with the Dodgers in the eighth inning.
With two outs and on second base, blasted a 106 mph line drive off (Kersh) toward center field. But Myers, taking off from second base, was drilled in the arm by the line drive, ending the inning with the Dodgers still leading, 4-3. They went on to win in 12 innings, 5-4.

"Obviously, I got bailed out there at the end, when Myers got hit by the ball," said Kershaw. "Just fortunate, no other way to say it. A big out for us. Ended up on the winning side of it, so I'll take it."

Said Myers: "Nothing I can do about it. I was breaking on contact. There were two outs. That ball started behind me and tracked me the whole way. Halfway to me I realized I could not get out of the way of that thing."
Kershaw was removed after the eighth inning, having struck out nine and getting a no-decision. He came into the game 11-0 in his previous 13 starts against San Diego.
