Marte returns for D-backs on Sunday after missing a game with left knee soreness

ATLANTA -- Diamondbacks second baseman exited Friday night's 2-0 win against the Braves in the bottom of the second inning due to left knee soreness.

Marte, who was deemed day to day, was a game-time decision on Saturday but was not in the lineup for the middle game of this set at Truist Park, a 10-3 win over Atlanta. He batted in the cleanup spot and played second base in Sunday's 5-3 loss to the Braves, going 0-for-3 with a walk and a run scored.

In the bottom of the first inning on Friday, Marte ranged to his right to attempt to field a Drake Baldwin ground ball and twisted awkwardly in the process. Marte stayed in the game for the remainder of the first inning.

“It’s been something that’s been bothering him for a couple of days since the Padres series [Aug. 3-6],” said manager Torey Lovullo. “He’s been trying to gut it out, and he moved to his left and it just got to be a little bit too much for him.”
