ST. PETERSBURG -- Kevin Kiermaier is out for the remaining four games of the season and Matt Duffy is day to day after both left Wednesday night's 8-7 win over the Yankees with injuries.
Kiermaier sustained a hairline fracture of his right foot and Duffy experienced right quad tightness.
Kiermaier got hit on his foot by a Masahiro Tanaka pitch in the first inning. He continued to play before leaving the game after the third.
X-rays were taken and revealed the hairline fracture.
"I just figured it was bruised," Kiermaier said. "It was a slider. I've been hit in the foot before and never had anything like this happen. And sure enough, the X-rays showed a hairline fracture. "It's just an unfortunate way for me to end the season. But that's kind of my 2018 in a nutshell. I feel like everything that could go wrong for me this year did."
Duffy left after the Rays' three-run first inning, during which he walked and scored a run.

"No, honestly, there wasn't even a play," said Duffy when asked if anything irritated his quad. "It started the first day in Toronto [last weekend]. It kind of slowly started coming on. Today it got to the point where I felt it on a check-swing and on a take, and then trotting around third base at 50 percent, you ask yourself, 'What am I doing? Trying to see if I can tear it?' [I'm] trying to be smart. We'll see how it progresses over the next couple of days."
Brandon Lowe entered the game at second base in Duffy's spot in the lineup. Second baseman Joey Wendle shifted to third base.
Austin Meadows took Kiermaier's spot in the order and played right field. Mallex Smith shifted from right field to center field.
