ARLINGTON -- The A's plan to keep Khris Davis' hot bat in play, even when the DH isn't.
If there was any speculation surrounding the matter ahead of the club's three-game Interleague series in Denver this weekend, manager Bob Melvin squashed it.
"Khris Davis will be the left fielder," Melvin said, grinning. "He's feeling pretty good about himself right now."
Davis entered Thursday's series finale in Arlington with six homers in his last four games, bringing his season total to 27 and putting him on pace for 42. He came up with 43 in 2017 and 42 the year before.
The 30-year-old slugger primarily played left field in his first season with Oakland, but has since resumed DH responsibilities on a mostly full-time basis. As strong as his bat is, his arm is suspect; but the A's will sacrifice defense for his premier power.
Davis drew a start in left field in three of the team's first seven games stationed in Interleague parks this year. Coors Field, specifically, warrants his inclusion in the lineup.
"It's a home run place," Melvin said.
Davis played five games in Denver while with the Brewers, going 4-for-15 with a homer.
Honoring Bill King
The A's will celebrate the one-year anniversary of Bill King's Hall of Fame induction with a commercial-free radio broadcast Monday, featuring highlights of his calls and special guests, with regulars Ken Korach, Ray Fosse and Vince Cotroneo.
Former A's PA announcer Roy Steele, along with King's daughter, Kathleen Lowenthal, are among the scheduled guests to be heard on the show. Lowenthal will throw out the ceremonial first pitch.
