SEATTLE -- The White Sox will have to wait at least a little while longer for Kyle Teel.
The Chicago catcher, who hasn’t played in a Major League game yet this season after sustaining a Grade 2 right hamstring strain in the World Baseball Classic on March 10, suffered a sprained lateral collateral ligament (LCL) in his right knee during Saturday’s rehab game for Triple-A Charlotte, and is expected to require three to six weeks of rest and rehabilitation before he can return to play.
White Sox manager Will Venable said Monday that Teel injured the knee while catching a cleat in the batter’s box during a swing in his fourth and final at-bat of the game. Despite the setback, Teel is scheduled to arrive in Seattle on Tuesday to be with the team for the remainder of the road trip.
“We’re happy that it wasn't a tear or anything,” Venable said. “Hopefully it's just a matter of weeks and not months that he's back healthy and running around and playing.
“I talked to him today. He's optimistic and in good spirits. But yeah, it’s just disappointing.”
