August 25th, 2016

The North American venues for the 2017 World Baseball Classic were announced on Thursday, with host cities including Los Angeles, San Diego, Miami and Guadalajara, Mexico.
Dodger Stadium will host the WBC semifinals and final, which will take place on March 20-22, 2017. It will be the second time the Dodgers' ballpark plays host to the tournament's final rounds, the first having been in 2009.

"Dodger Stadium and our great fans look forward to the finest players in the world competing for the WBC championship," Dodgers president and MLB International Committee chairman Stan Kasten said.
The Padres' Petco Park will host second-round games from March 14-19. First-round games will take place at Marlins Park in Miami and Estadio Charros de Jalisco in Guadalajara -- a first-time host -- from March 9-13.

"We are proud of welcoming the World Baseball Classic to Jalisco," said Jalisco Governor Aristoteles Sandoval. "We are certain that, thanks to the quality of our infrastructure and the warmth of our people, Jalisco will be known as the baseball capital of Latin America."
Pool C -- which includes the defending WBC champion Dominican Republic, the United States, Canada and Colombia -- will play its first-round games in Miami. Guadalajara will host Pool D, made up of Mexico, Italy, Puerto Rico and Venezuela.
Mexico has hosted World Baseball Classic games once before, in 2009, when first-round games were played in Mexico City's Foro Sol. Miami has been a host city twice, in '09 and '13, as has San Diego. Petco Park hosted the inaugural World Baseball Classic's semifinals and final in '06, as well as second-round games in '09.

"The World Baseball Classic highlights the diversity and global appeal of our game, and it's an honor for the San Diego/Tijuana region to once again host the second round," Padres president Mike Dee said.
In addition to the North American sites, the Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul, South Korea, and the Tokyo Dome in Japan had previously been announced as host stadiums for WBC pool play and second-round games.

The WBC's first- and second-round format will be round-robin pool play, with each team playing the others in their pool once. The top two teams in each of the four first-round pools will advance to the second round.
