SAN DIEGO -- The Dodgers claimed left-handed pitcher Zachary Rosscup from the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday and designated left-handed reliever Edward Paredes for assignment.
Rosscup, 30, has made 10 relief appearances with Colorado's Triple-A Albuquerque affiliate, allowing one earned run over 8 1/3 innings. He was originally drafted by Tampa Bay -- then run by Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman -- in the 2009 MLB Draft, and he was acquired by the Cubs in 2011 before being traded to the Rockies in '17.
Rosscup is 3-1 with a 5.30 ERA in 71 career big league games over four seasons. He started the season on the 60-day disabled list with a blister on the left middle finger, and he has yet to play in the Majors this season.
To create room on the 40-man roster, the Dodgers designated Paredes, who was sent down on Tuesday.
When a player's contract is designated for assignment -- often abbreviated "DFA" -- that player is immediately removed from his club's 40-man roster, and 25-man roster if he was on that as well. Within seven days of the transaction (it was previously 10 days), the player must either be traded, released or placed on irrevocable outright waivers.
