Athletics closer Liam Hendriks has been named the American League Reliever of the Month for August, and the Dodgers’ Kenley Jansen has earned National League honors.
After a breakout 2019 at age 30, Hendriks has continued to dominate. The right-hander allowed only one run on six hits and one walk over 14 innings in August, striking out 20 in that span. He went 9-for-9 in save chances and also picked up two wins.
Hendriks won his first Reliever of the Month Award last June.
Jansen, meanwhile, hadn’t won since 2017.
Amid a resurgence in 2020, the longtime Dodgers closer had a 1.54 ERA, 0.77 WHIP, 19 strikeouts and four walks over 11 2/3 innings in August, going 8-for-9 in save opportunities.
