New dad Gilbert twirls gem vs. Sox on Father's Day

June 21st, 2026

SEATTLE -- Buoyed by their little ones on a very wholesome Father’s Day, the Mariners rolled to a much-needed, 3-1 win over the Red Sox on Sunday afternoon at T-Mobile Park that avoided a sweep.

New dad Logan Gilbert twirled another dominant gem to continue his midseason turnaround, racking up eight strikeouts while overcoming his lone blemish, a solo homer to Nate Eaton in the third inning.

He also avoided an injury scare when tumbling over near first base while attempting to corral an underhand throw from Josh Naylor on a grounder in the seventh.

But after a conferral with Mariners assistant athletic trainer Taylor Bennett, Gilbert remained in the game for his eighth and final strikeout, before manager Dan Wilson turned things over to Gabe Speier in a left-on-left matchup with Jarren Duran. Gilbert did not appear to suffer an injury.

However, the day’s other key contributor -- right fielder Dominic Canzone -- was forced to exit with what appeared to be a right leg injury, immediately after he crossed first base on an RBI groundout in the sixth. That came after he crushed his first homer of the year off a lefty, a solo blast vs. Payton Tolle in the second, then made a remarkable diving catch that sparked an inning-ending double play in the sixth.

The Mariners have now won each of Gilbert’s past six starts, four of which have been quality. In this span, the towering right-hander has a 1.49 ERA, a 0.80 WHIP, 43 strikeouts (including eight on Saturday) and 10 walks (including two on Sunday) while holding hitters to a .492 OPS. He’s also averaging just over six innings per outing during that span.
