New D-backs Manager Torey Lovullo answered questions from fans (in 140 characters or less) during a Twitter chat on Thursday, November 10.
Hey fans, this is new manager Torey Lovullo here to answer your questions. Proud to be a part of this #Dbacks community. #AskTorey
@Sjchickenhawk: What is your favorite memory of baseball?
There's two. One was being appointed the manager of the Arizona Diamondbacks. The second was collecting my first Major League hit.
@forever_dalysha: What is the best part about now be being part of the Arizona Diamondbacks family?
Feeling welcomed into a family that shares my same morals and values, things such as caring for and trusting one another.
@MichaelMcD8393: What type of culture are you hoping to establish from Day 1 in Spring Training? That we are a smart, tough, fearless baseball team that cares about one another.
@backinAball: So many questions. 1 - We have a young team. How does your approach differ between the youngins and the vets?
With a young player, you have to have patience because of his potential growth. A veteran player will understand his strengths more rapidly.
@rykenn123: What is your favorite food?
Italian food with the correct Parmesan cheese: Pecorino Romano.
@DamianZimmer7: Coolest part about working with Greinke?
Being able to watch one of the best pitchers in all of baseball compete every fifth day from the best seat in the house.
@gbenjamin666: What do you think is the team's biggest strong point or asset right now?
There is a strong nucleus of players that could potentially be core guys.
@JFrank_N4A: Torey--Congrats on the position! Which manager from your playing career influenced you the most, and why?
Sparky Anderson because he cared about every player on an emotional level.
@Patroy34: Welcome to AZ! What is your top priority heading into the offseason?
Getting up to speed with medical reports, reaching out and introducing myself to players and finalizing the coaching staff.
@ZackMann1997: Do you prefer Fenway Park or Chase Field?
Fenway Park had a tremendous history and tradition. Chase Field seems remarkably spacious, modern and beautiful.
@Michael_Rokicki: Have you met any of the players yet?
Not yet, but I'm going to meet Goldy tonight at his charity event.
@srhodes9540: What brand of baseball do the fans have to look forward to from the 2017 D-backs moving forward?
A fundamentally sound group that will give 100% of what they have that day and an ego-less team that plays for one another.
@jgonzol16: Your thoughts on conventional bullpens? How about using your best reliever in high leverage even if it's not the ninth?
I believe in bullpen roles. However, I could ask guys to step into different situations from time to time.
@GoldschmidTZU: Do you have any pets? We love Bark In The Park
Yes, I love animals and have a Maltese Shih Tzu named B-Lo (short for Buffalo).
@ComeauJustin: What do you find most exciting, being a rookie manager in the MLB?
The challenges of getting to know the NL and in particular the NL West. And working with a dynamic #Dbacks leadership group.
Alright, time for one more question...
@SportsFan135: With the team now, do you expect to contend for an NL West title?
We'll never look past today. We will expect to compete every night and see where that lands us.
@RKelapire: Is a hot dog a sandwich?
Ok, have to answer this one too... No way. A hot dog is a hot dog. #MustardAndOnions
