SAN DIEGO -- Padres catching prospect Luis Campusano was arrested and charged with felony marijuana possession on Saturday in his home state of Georgia.

"We were recently notified of the arrest of Luis Campusano in his hometown of Augusta, Ga., this past weekend,” the Padres said in a statement. “We are gathering information and have been in contact with MLB and local authorities. As this is a pending legal matter, we will not have any further comment at this time."

Campusano was released on a bond of $5,100. His police report notes that he was charged with "purchase/possession/manufacture/distribution/sale" of a controlled substance. He is awaiting trial.

The Padres' fourth-ranked prospect per MLB Pipeline, Campusano made a brief big league debut in September. He homered in his only game before sustaining a left wrist injury.

Campusano has been viewed as part of the team's long-term catching solution, and that held true even after the team acquired in a deal with Seattle at the Trade Deadline. Campusano and Nola were expected to share playing time behind the plate in 2021, with also in the mix.

Campusano batted .325/.396/.509 at Class A Advanced Lake Elsinore in 2019, taking home co-MVP of the California League.
