Cardinals infielder Carpenter offered spot on team

Astros right-hander will pitch for Team USA in the 2017 World Baseball Classic, sources told MLB.com's Jon Paul Morosi on Tuesday.
Sources also told Morosi that Cardinals infielder has been offered a spot on the team but that he has yet to commit.

Gregerson, 32, threw two scoreless innings for Team USA in the 2013 World Baseball Classic and is coming off a season in which he posted a 3.28 ERA in 59 appearances for Houston.
Carpenter hit .271/.380/.505 with 21 home runs and 68 RBIs in 129 games for St. Louis in 2016, earning his third All-Star nod
