Bumgarner 'so much better' but not throwing

SAN FRANCISCO -- Injured Giants ace is not yet ready to resume throwing, and manager Bruce Bochy is unsure when the left-hander will be.
Bumgarner suffered a Grade 2 left shoulder AC sprain and bruised ribs following a dirt-bike accident he was involved in during San Francisco's off-day in Colorado on April 20. The four-time All-Star was placed on the 10-day disabled list the following day but isn't expected back until after the All-Star break in July.
Bochy said Bumgarner continues to receive treatment and meet with physical therapists but has yet to graduate to any baseball-related activities.
"He's doing his rehab," Bochy said Friday before the Giants' game against the Cincinnati Reds at AT&T Park. "He's not throwing. Talking to him yesterday -- he just feels so much better. He feels like he's really making progress. He's going to be pushing us to let him throw but he's not ready."
The loss of Bumgarner was a devastating blow to a ballclub that has been beleaguered by injuries most of the year. Shortstop and center fielder returned Thursday after stints on the disabled list while closer was put on the DL earlier this week with a mild right pronator strain.
was not in the starting lineup Friday but Bochy said it was just to give the veteran outfielder some needed rest.
"He was a little nicked up before last night," Bochy said. "He's feeling the last few games. Like all these guys, occasionally they're going to get a break. He should be fine to go tomorrow."
, who was eligible to come off the DL on May 3, hit before Thursday's game but continues to be slowed because of issues throwing the ball. Hill has missed 18 games since going out with a right forearm strain.
"Swinging the bat he's good with," Bochy said. "It's just the arm's taken a little bit longer than they thought so he's continued his rehab."
