Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association CEO Dan Foster to retire after 40 years of service

October 9th, 2025

Colorado Springs, Colo. – Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association (MLBPAA) announces that Dan Foster, Chief Executive Officer, will retire from the nonprofit organization after 40 years of dedicated service and leadership. Foster will remain CEO through April 1, 2026. MLBPAA’s current Chief Operating Officer, Geoff Hixson, will succeed Foster as the association’s next CEO.

Over four decades, Foster’s vision and commitment transformed the MLBPAA from a small alumni group into the leading alumni organization that champions former players and advocates on their behalf. He guided the growth of alumni initiatives that provide players with opportunities to stay connected, give back to their communities and promote and protect the dignity of the game.

“In 1986, I met Dan when I was appointed president of the MLBPAA. It was soon apparent to me that of the few employees we had at that time, he was the most conscientious and passionate about making the MLBPAA a successful organization,” said former MLBPAA President and Hall of Famer Jim Kaat. “I suggested to the board that we make him the CEO. That decision proved to be the right one as Dan has led the organization to heights beyond our expectations. Dan deserves full credit for leading the MLBPAA to where it is today.”

Under Foster’s leadership, the MLBPAA launched programs such as the Legends for Youth Clinic Series, career development services and charitable partnerships that impacted hundreds of thousands of children and families. He played a pivotal role in strengthening the alumni network, creating avenues for players to remain involved with the game after their playing days.

“As current president of the MLBPAA, I’ve witnessed firsthand the tremendous leadership and dedication that Dan Foster brings to this organization,” said MLBPAA President and Hall of Famer Jim Thome. “His genuine care for former players and passion for our mission have made it a privilege to work alongside him.”

Foster was instrumental in amplifying the voice of former players while advocating tirelessly for their increased benefits. Through the advocacy of the MLBPAA, Major League Baseball and the Major League Baseball Players Association provided access to deserving annual payments for pre-1980 inactive non-vested players who fell short of qualifying for pension benefits. In addition, Foster recently lobbied to obtain a payment opportunity for living Negro League Players. He remains proud that the association is committed to finding new ways to expand benefits for all former players.

“Dan Foster is the definition of the right man at the right time,” said MLBPAA Chairman Steve Rogers. “When the vision of the founding members started to gain traction, it became evident the Alumni Association needed a leader who could build the organization from the ground up. Dan has invested his heart and soul into doing exactly that. As he winds down his role as CEO, he can take great pride in having accomplished the ultimate job well done."

Foster’s leadership has left an enduring mark on the MLBPAA, the staff and the baseball family that it serves. The organization is dedicated to honoring the legacy he created by continuing to protect, support and celebrate former players.
