BALTIMORE -- Manny Machado became the youngest player in Orioles history to reach the 100-home run mark on Tuesday night during Baltimore's 5-3 win against the Blue Jays.
"It's a big number. It's a huge number. Not a lot of guys have 100," Machado said. "To get to that milestone is something that I'm never going to forget. And just getting this W. Every time I get a milestone or something, [if] it comes out with a W it just makes it a lot better. To come out with a W on top of your accomplishments.
"It's very humbling. I've worked hard to get where I am. It's not like I'm sitting around, not doing anything. Everyone in here works to get to certain situations and I finally got to one."
Machado, who hit a two-run homer against Toronto in the fifth inning to give Baltimore a 3-1 lead, is just 24 years, 55 days old. He eclipsed the previous Baltimore record, set by Hall of Famer Eddie Murray in 1980 at 24 years and 177 days.
Additionally, Machado hit the 100-homer mark in his 578th career game, which is the third-fastest in games in O's history.
"I don't ever take it for granted, what he's doing," Orioles manager Buck Showalter said. "He spoils us with a great level of play, and unfortunately sometimes I think we're all guilty of it. When he makes some of the plays that he makes that nobody else makes and he does some of the things offensively that very few people do, all of a sudden if he doesn't do it every time, he almost spoils you with the level of play.
"But it's so hard to do what he does, and I don't ever take that for granted, what he's doing at a young age and whether it's an old age. He's been very durable. He posts up and he likes to play baseball and he likes to play with his teammates. He had a big blow for us tonight."
The blast came off Blue Jays starter J.A. Happ and sailed out of Camden Yards at an exit velocity of 112.7 mph, according to Statcast™. It's the highest exit velocity by Machado on a homer this season. It also traveled an estimated 438 feet, which is Machado's fourth-longest homer distance this season. Machado has 32 homers and 83 RBIs on the year.
"He got there a lot quicker than I did," Orioles catcher Matt Wieters, who hit a decisive homer Tuesday, said of Machado's 100th. "But it's impressive to watch. Not only is he able to drive the ball out of the ballpark, he's a complete hitter and he can hit the ball the other way. He's fun to watch hit, and I think he's just going to get better."
