The Mariners have avoided an arbitration hearing with newly-acquired outfielder Leonys Martin as they agreed to terms on a one-year contract. According to CBS Sports, the contract is worth $4.15 million.
Martin was acquired from the Rangers in November along with pitcher Anthony Bass for reliever Tom Wilhelmsen, outfielder James Jones and infielder Patrick Kivlehan. Martin is considered to be the leading candidate to be the Opening Day center fielder.
The Mariners still have two players unsigned who have filed for salary arbitration: relievers Evan Scribner and Charlie Furbush. Players and clubs are scheduled to exchange arbitration numbers on Friday.
