Mariners reliever Charlie Furbush and two players acquired this offseason -- reliever Evan Scribner and outfielder Leonys Martin -- filed for salary arbitration on Tuesday.
The club and the players will exchange salary figures on Friday and any necessary hearings will be conducted in February. Players with at least three years of Major League experience but fewer than six are eligible for arbitration. Players in the top 22 percent of those with two-plus years of experience are also eligible.
This is the second year Furbush has been eligible for arbitration. The two sides settled last season at $1.3 million. They also reached an agreement the previous offseason that pre-empted a dispute if the left-hander reached Super Two status.
Furbush pitched in 33 games this season for the Mariners before missing the final three months with a slight tear in his left rotator cuff. He is hoping to be ready for Spring Training. He was 1-1 with a 2.08 ERA and a 0.65 WHIP.
Scribner, who was acquired from the Athletics on Dec. 8, qualified for arbitration as a Super Two player. He has two years and 142 days of service time.
Martin, acquired from the Rangers on Nov. 16, also qualified for the first time. He has three-plus years of experience and just completed a five-year, $15.5 million contract with the Rangers after defecting from Cuba.
The Mariners beat reliever Tom Wilhelmsen in an arbitration hearing last season. It was the first time they had a hearing with a player since 2003. This is their first offseason under general manager Jerry Dipoto and Wilhelmsen has since been traded to the Rangers.
