SEATTLE -- Jean Segura exited the Mariners' 11-4 loss to the Indians with a sprained right middle finger, according to Mariners manager Scott Servais. X-rays were negative, and there was no dislocation. He is day to day.
"It's going to be sore, because it plays into his throwing," Servais said.
The injury occurred on a ninth-inning comebacker from Yandy Diaz that Mariners pitcher Ariel Miranda knocked down with his throwing hand and fired to Robinson Cano at second base. But it sailed over the second baseman's glove and struck Segura -- running behind Cano to back up the play -- on his throwing hand.
Segura appeared to be in considerable pain, and he was examined by Mariners trainers and manager Scott Servais before exiting the game. Utility player Taylor Motter replaced him at short, and he hit an RBI single in the ninth inning.

The 27-year-old Segura entered Saturday with a slash line of .296/.346/.424 in 123 games. He was on the disabled list twice this season, missing 12 games (April 11-25) with a strained right hamstring and another 18 (June 2-11) with a right high ankle sprain.
