Medical Update on Mariners Catcher Cal Raleigh and Infielder Josh Naylor

Both players are expected to be ready for 2027 Spring Training

SEATTLE – Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Justin Hollander and Vice President of High Performance and Medical Rob Scheidegger announced today the following medical update on catcher Cal Raleigh and infielder Josh Naylor.

Raleigh, 29, underwent a left shoulder acromioclavicular (AC) debridement procedure at the University of Washington Medical Center on October 3. The surgery was performed by Dr. Albert Gee. Raleigh is expected to be fully recovered prior to the start of Spring Training.

Raleigh appeared in 126 games during the 2026 season, batting .182 (82x451) with 49 runs, 15 doubles, 23 home runs, 69 RBI, 2 stolen bases, a .296 OBP and slugged .368 for an .664 OPS. Over his final 36 games (August 16-September 27), Raleigh posted a.946 OPS while recording 7 doubles, 11 home runs and 26 RBI. Raleigh was on the 10-day Injured List from May 14-June 16 with a right oblique strain, the first IL stint of his career.

The Harrisonburg, Virginia-born catcher has appeared in parts of 6 Major League seasons, all with the Mariners (2021-c), batting .218 (571x2,615) with 362 runs, 110 doubles, 2 triples, 176 home runs and 445 RBI, getting on base at a .311 clip and slugging .464 for a .775 OPS. The switch-hitter was selected by the Mariners in the third round of the 2018 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of Florida State University.

Naylor, 29, underwent triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC) repair surgery on his right wrist at the University of Washington Medical Center on October 3, performed by Dr. Jerry Huang. Naylor is expected to be fully recovered prior to the start of Spring Training.

Naylor appeared in 152 games during the 2026 season, batting .261 (156x597) with 58 runs, 23 doubles, 10 home runs, 57 RBI and 30 stolen bases with a .667 OPS.

The Mississauga, Ontario, Canada native has appeared in parts of 8 Major League seasons with the San Diego Padres (2019-20), Cleveland Guardians (2020-24), Arizona Diamondbacks (2025) and Seattle Mariners (2025-c). He is a career .268 (853x3,187) hitter with 392 runs, 169 doubles, 2 triples, 114 home runs, 492 RBI and 85 stolen bases, getting on base at a .327 clip and slugging .429 (.756 OPS).  

Naylor was originally selected by the Miami Marlins in the 1st round (12th overall) of the 2015 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Secondary School (Mississauga, ON, CA). He was acquired by the Mariners on July 24, 2025 from the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for LHP Brandyn Garcia and minor league RHP Ashton Izzi. He signed a 5-year contract with the Mariners on November 17, 2025.
