Mariners recall LHP Ariel Miranda from AAA Tacoma; select RHP Blake Parker

RHP Steve Cishek placed on 15-day disabled list; RHP Donn Roach optioned to AAA; RHP Mayckol Guaipe released.

Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto announced the following roster moves prior to tonight's (7:10 pm PT) game vs. the Boston Red Sox.
- Ariel Miranda, LHP, recalled from AAA Tacoma.
- Blake Parker, RHP, selected from AAA Tacoma.
- Steve Cishek, RHP, placed on the 15-day disabled list (retroactive to August 2) with left hip labrum tear.
- Donn Roach, RHP, optioned to AAA Tacoma (post-game 8/3).
- Mayckol Guaipe, RHP, released.
Miranda (#37) is scheduled to be the starting pitcher in tonight's (7:10 pm PT) game vs. Boston.
Parker (#53) will be in uniform and available for tonight's (7:10 pm PT) game vs. the Boston.
Miranda, 27, will be making his first Major League start after being acquired from Baltimore on July 31. He was 4-7 with a 3.93 ERA (44 ER, 100.2 IP) in 19 starts with AAA Norfolk this season. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound left-hander has struck 87 while walking just 31. Over his last 7 starts with Norfolk since June 18, he is 3-0 with a 1.93 ERA (9 ER, 42.0 IP) with 33 strikeouts and 11 walks. Miranda made his Major League debut on July 3 at Seattle, tossing 2.0 innings.
In parts of two minor league seasons in the Orioles organization, Miranda is 10-10 with a 3.80 ERA (72 ER, 170.2 IP) with 158 strikeouts and 57 walks in 33 career games. He pitched seven seasons in the Serie Nacional Cuban League, going 22-25 with a 3.78 ERA (162 ER, 386.0 IP) with 274 strikeouts and 151 walks in 80 career games, including 64 starts. A native of Havana, Cuba, he originally signed with Baltimore as a non-drafted free agent on May 27, 2015.
Parker, 31, is 1-2 with 19 saves with a 2.72 ERA (12 ER, 39.2 IP) with 56 strikeouts and 11 walks in 38 appearances, all in relief, with AAA Tacoma. The 6-foot-3, 225-pound right-hander ranks 2nd in the Pacific Coast League with 19 saves, tops among all Mariners minor leaguers. He was named to the PCL All-Star Team this season for the 2nd time in the last 3 seasons. He held left-handed batters to .135 (10x74) average against, while right-handed batters are hitting .222 (14x63).
Parker last appeared in the Majors with Chicago - NL in 2014. In parts of 3 Major League seasons, he compiled a record of 2-3 with a 3.68 ERA (30 ER, 73.1 IP) with 85 strikeouts and 24 walks in 74 career appearances. Over 10 minor league seasons, Parker is 15-20 with a 2.85 ERA (134 ER, 423.0 IP) with 480 strikeouts and 192 walks in 333 career games with the Cubs and Mariners organizations. He was originally signed by Seattle as a minor league free agent on Dec. 18, 2015.
Cishek, 30, is 2-6 with 25 saves with a 3.40 ERA (18 ER, 47.2 IP) with 62 strikeouts and 16 walks in 44 relief appearances with the Mariners this season. Among American League leaders, Cishek ranks T3rd in saves with 25. Opposing batters are hitting just .197 (35x178) vs. Cishek, while right-handers are batting .153 (15x98). Cishek recorded 21 saves before the All-Star Break, a career-high for saves prior to the break, surpassing his 20 saves in the first half of 2014. In seven Major League seasons with the Marlins, Cardinals and Mariners, Cishek is 19-26 with 120 saves with a 2.89 ERA (116 ER, 360.2 IP) with 394 strikeouts and 135 walks in 355 career games.
Roach, 26, is 2-0 with an 8.44 ERA (5 ER, 5.1 IP) with 2 strikeouts and 2 walks in 4 relief appearances over two stints with the Mariners this season. Roach earned the win on Tuesday (August 2) vs. Boston, tossing 2.0 innings in relief while allowing 1 run on 1 hit and 1 hit batsman, in his only appearance since being recalled on August 1. In 21 games (17 starts) with AAA Tacoma this season, Roach is 6-5 with 1 save with a 4.21 ERA (49 ER, 104.2 IP) with 62 strikeouts and 18 walks. Roach is 1-0 with 1 save with a 2.35 ERA (2 ER, 7.2 IP) with 3 strikeouts and 1 walk in 4 relief appearances with Tacoma. Roach originally signed with Seattle as a minor league free agent on Dec. 5, 2015.
Guaipe, 25 (26 on August 11), posted a 4.91 ERA (4 ER, 7.1 IP) with 5 strikeouts and 4 walks in 7.1 innings pitched with the Mariners this season. In 10 relief appearances with AAA Tacoma this season, Guaipe is 0-1 with 4 saves with a 2.84 ERA (4 ER, 12.2) with 11 strikeouts and 4 walks. In parts of 2 Major League seasons with the Mariners, Guaipe is 0-3 with a 5.29 ERA (20 ER, 34.0 IP) with 27 strikeouts and 17 walks in 26 appearances, all in relief. In parts of 10 minor league season with Seattle, Guaipe is 23-23 with a 3.46 ERA (175 ER, 454.2 IP) with 350 strikeouts and 146 walks in 215 career games, including 35 career starts. He was originally signed by Seattle as a non-drafted free agent on Oct. 11, 2006.
