Mariners recall outfielder John Andreoli from AAA Tacoma

Seattle options RHP Nick Rumbelow to AAA Tacoma.

•    John Andreoli, OF, recalled from AAA Tacoma.
•    Nick Rumbelow, RHP, optioned to AAA Tacoma.

•    John Andreoli, OF, recalled from AAA Tacoma.
•    Nick Rumbelow, RHP, optioned to AAA Tacoma.

Andreoli, 28, is making his 2nd stint with the Mariners this season (also: 5/23-28). He made his Major League debut with the Mariners on May 23 at Oakland after being selected from AAA Tacoma prior to the game. In his debut, he went 1-for-3 with a walk and made a sliding catch in right field to rob a base hit in the 8th inning. He was optioned to Tacoma on May 28. Since then, he hit .270 (27x100) with 20 runs, 7 doubles, 2 triples, 5 RBI, 22 walks and 5 stolen bases in 28 games with the Rainiers. Overall this season, the 6-foot-1, 210-pound outfielder is batting .283 (64x226) with 41 runs, 14 doubles, 4 triples, 3 home runs, 25 RBI, 33 walks, 14 stolen bases and a .380 on-base percentage in 60 games with Tacoma. He was on the Rainiers disabled list from April 22-May 2 with a sprained finger on his right hand. 

Andreoli was signed by Seattle as a minor league free agent on Dec. 8, 2017. He spent the past three seasons (2015-17) with AAA Iowa in the Chicago Cubs system. Last year, he hit .244 (105x430) in 119 games with 81 runs, 24 doubles, 8 triples, 14 home runs and 26 stolen bases. He was T1st in the Pacific Coast League in steals, T10th in triples and 11th in runs.

The Worchester, MA, native was drafted by Chicago-NL in the 17th round of the 2011 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Connecticut. In 8 minor league seasons (2011-18), he's appeared in 744 games, hitting a combined .269 (715x2662) with 123 doubles, 43 triples, 37 home runs and 245 RBI with 242 stolen bases. 

Rumbelow, 26, posted a 4.91 ERA (4 ER, 7.1 IP) with 7 strikeouts and 1 walk in 6 relief appearances with the Mariners since being recalled from AAA Tacoma on June 14. Prior to being recalled, he recorded 3 scoreless relief appearances of 1.0 inning apiece with AAA Tacoma. Rumbelow began the season on the AAA Tacoma disabled list with a brachial plexus injury before being reinstated on June 5.

The 6-foot, 190-pound right-hander was acquired by the Mariners from New York-AL in exchange for minor leaguers JP Sears (lhp) and Juan Then (rhp) on Nov. 18, 2017. Rumbelow split the 2017 season between AA Trenton and AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, where he was a combined 5-1 with 6 saves and a 1.12 ERA (5 ER, 40.1 IP) in 25 relief appearances. He averaged 10.04 strikeouts-per-9.0-innings (45 K, 40.1 IP) in 2017, while allowing just 21 hits and 11 walks for a 0.79 WHIP (11 BB, 21 H, 40.1 IP). He held opposing batters to a .150 (21x140) average against and did not allow a home run.

The native of Bullard, TX, was originally selected by New York-AL in the 7th round of the 2013 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of Louisiana State University. He made his Major League debut with the Yankees in 2015, making 17 relief appearances and posting a 1-1 record with a 4.02 ERA (7 ER, 15.2 IP) with 15 strikeouts and 5 walks. In 2016 he made 1 appearance at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre prior to being placed on the minor league disabled list on April 11 and missing the remainder of the season after undergoing "Tommy John" surgery on April 19.
