Mariners recall RHP Casey Lawrence, select RHP Cody Martin

·         Andrew Moore, RHP, optioned to AAA Tacoma.

·         Tyler Smith, INF, designated for assignment.

Lawrence (#61) and Martin (#57) will be in uniform and available for tonight's (7:10 p.m.) game vs. the New York Mets.

Lawrence, 29, is making his third appearance with the Mariners this season. He has posted a 5.71 ERA (11 ER, 17.1 IP) with 16 strikeouts and 3 walks in two previous stints (5/17-6/2 and 6/12-13). From May 21 - June 1, he held opponents to 3 runs in 11.2 innings pitched (2.31 ERA) while striking out 14 and walking 3 in 4 relief appearances. The 6-foot, 175-pound right-hander struck out 9 over 5.0 innings in relief on June 1 vs. Colorado, setting the single-game club record for strikeouts by a reliever. Since being optioned to AAA Tacoma on June 13, he was 2-3, including 1 shutout, with a 3.35 ERA (17 ER, 45.2 IP) with 30 strikeouts and 9 walks in 7 starts. He blanked Albuquerque for 9.0 innings on July 3, allowing 8 hits with 7 strikeouts and 0 walks. Overall in 11 games (7 starts) with the Rainiers, he is 2-4 with a 4.08 ERA (26 ER, 57.1 IP) with 41 strikeouts and 10 walks.

He was claimed off waivers from Toronto on May 11 after being designated for assignment on May 8. Lawrence went 0-3 with an 8.78 ERA (13 ER, 13.1 IP) with 7 strikeouts and 11 walks in 4 games (2 starts) with Toronto this season. He was selected by the Blue Jays from AAA Buffalo on April 8 and made his Major League debut in relief later that day at Tampa Bay. With AAA Buffalo, he was 1-0 with a 0.90 ERA (1 ER, 10.0 IP) with 7 strikeouts in 3 starts. The native of McSherrytown, PA, was originally signed as an amateur free agent on June 15, 2010 after 4 seasons at Albright College (Reading, PA). Over parts of 8 minor league seasons with Toronto (2010-17) and Seattle (2017), he is 66-64 with a 3.81 ERA (437 ER, 1031.1 IP) with 677 strikeouts and 191 walks in 183 career games (168 starts).

Martin, 27, has earned 1 save with a 3.81 ERA (12 ER, 28.1 IP) with 37 strikeouts and 8 walks in 12 games (3 starts) with AAA Tacoma this season. Over his last 6 appearances (2 starts) with the Rainiers dating back to June 28, he has given up only 3 runs in 14.0 innings (1.93 ERA) while striking out 25 and walking 2. 

Martin made 9 appearances, including 2 starts, with the Mariners last season, going 1-2 with a 3.86 ERA (11 ER, 25.2 IP) with 15 strikeouts and 9 walks. He was claimed off waivers by Seattle from Oakland on Oct. 29, 2015. In parts of 2 Major League seasons with the Braves (2015), Athletics (2015) and Mariners (2016-c), he is 3-7 with a 6.07 ERA (38 ER, 56.1 IP) with 42 strikeouts and 21 walks in 34 games (4 starts). The native of Dos Palos, CA, was selected by Atlanta in the 7thround of the 2011 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of Gonzaga University. 

Moore, 23, is 1-3 with a 5.65 ERA (23 ER, 36.2 IP) with 16 strikeouts and 4 walks in 6 starts over 2 stints (6/21-23 and 7/3-28) with the Mariners this season. Since being recalled from AAA Tacoma on July 3, he went 0-3 with a 6.07 ERA (20 ER, 29.2 IP) with 12 strikeouts and 4 walks in 5 starts. He allowed 10 home runs during this span. The 6-foot, 195-pound right-hander earned the win in his Major League debut on June 22 vs. Detroit. Overall with the Rainiers this season, he is 3-1 with a 3.06 ERA (18 ER, 53.0 IP) with 48 strikeouts and 8 walks in 9 starts. He began the season with AA Arkansas where he was 1-2 with a 2.08 ERA (8 ER, 34.2 IP) with 33 strikeouts and 9 walks in 6 games (5 starts) before being promoted to Tacoma on May 8. In 3 minor league seasons in the Seattle organization (2015-17), he is 17-8 with a 2.58 ERA (83 ER, 289.2 IP) with 257 strikeouts and 50 walks in 57 games (50 starts). He was selected by Seattle in the 2nd round (72ndoverall) of the 2015 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of Oregon State University.

Smith, 26, is batting .239 (68x285) with 34 runs, 13 doubles, 6 home runs and 28 RBI in 84 games with AAA Tacoma this season. The 6-foot, 195-pound infielder made his Major League debut with the Mariners on June 2 vs. Tampa Bay. He doubled in his first Major League plate appearance. In 10 games with Seattle this season, he hit .188 (3x16) with 2 runs, 1 double and 1 RBI. Since being optioned to Tacoma on June 20, he hit .207 (23x111) with 15 runs, 5 doubles, 1 home run and 10 RBI in 33 games with the Rainiers. In five minor league seasons with Seattle, he has hit .274 (496x1811) with 241 runs, 95 doubles, 13 triples, 26 home runs and 178 RBI in 498 career games. He was selected by Seattle in the 8th round of the 2013 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of Oregon State University (Corvallis, OR).
