Mariners Recall Infielder Leo Rivas from Triple-A Tacoma

SEATTLE – Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Justin Hollander announced today the following roster moves:

  • Leo Rivas, INF, recalled from Triple-A Tacoma.
  • Brock Rodden, INF, placed on 10-day Injured List (retroactive to September 23, left patella tendon inflammation).

Rivas, 28, was optioned on August 25. He has appeared in 47 games with the Mariners this season, batting .147 (17x116). He authored a 10th-inning walk-off single on August 21 against the Cubs.

Rivas appeared in 33 games with Triple-A Tacoma this season, batting .243 (28x115) with 3 home runs and a .767 OPS. He was on the minor league 7-day Injured List from June 17-July 23, making 4 rehab appearances with the ACL Mariners during that time.

The switch-hitting infielder has appeared in parts of 3 Major League seasons with Seattle (2024-c), batting .201 (56x279) with 6 doubles, 2 triples, 2 home runs, 26 RBI and 11 stolen bases.

The Maracay, Venezuela native has appeared in parts of 10 minor league seasons in the Angels (2015-19), Reds (2021-22) and Mariners (2023-c) organizations.

Rodden, 26, appeared in 30 Major League games with the Mariners, batting .197 (12x61) with 3 doubles, 1 triple and a .584 OPS, appearing at third base, shortstop and second base. He made his Major League debut on August 14 against the Astros. The switch-hitting infielder hit safely in each of his first 6 MLB games.

Rodden hit .262 (94x359) with 54 runs, 22 doubles, 3 triples, 19 home runs, 65 RBI, 8 stolen bases, a .342 OBP and slugging .499 for an .841 OPS in 92 games with Triple-A Tacoma this season. He appeared defensively at shortstop (30 G), third base (35 G), second base (24 G), left field (8 G) and center field (1 G) with the Rainiers.

The 5-foot-7, 170-pound infielder was selected by the Athletics in the 10th round of the 2022 MLB First-Year Player Draft, but did not sign and was again selected by the Seattle Mariners in the 5th round of the 2023 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of Wichita State University (KS). He has appeared in parts of 4 minor league seasons, all in the Mariners organization, combining to hit .270 (315x1,165) with 185 runs, 70 doubles, 10 triples, 40 home runs, 172 RBI and 55 stolen bases, getting on base at a .349 clip and slugging .451 (.799 OPS) in 298 games.
